Want to cheat your way into a better night’s sleep?

Tips and tricks -

  • Stop scrolling- That’s right, don’t scroll while in bed when you’re trying to fall asleep and don’t scroll when you wake up in the middle of the night. Research shows that if you don’t sleep with your phone the quicker you can fall asleep. Try putting your phone away 30 minutes before you go to sleep.

  • Sleep masks- Ever wake up in the middle of the night and think man, it’s bright in here? Maybe that’s just me. Even with blinds and drapes closed light still seems to seep into the bedroom. My sleep mask helps me stay asleep and it also helps me fall asleep since it forces me to shut my eyes (lol).

  • Essential oils- Having a difficult time falling asleep? Sometimes the to-do list in our heads can run rampant and unwinding can seem impossible. Whether you use a diffuser, mix with a lotion, or spray onto your pillowcase essential oils are found to relieve stress and diminish anxiety.

  • Weighted blankets- I have yet to fall into the hype of the weighted blanket, but it is definitely on my buy list (once wedding shenanigans are over)! According to Healthline and Glamour magazine: weighted blankets push you downward, which can reduce levels of of the stress hormone cortisol, and they mimic deep pressure touch, acting almost like a massage. Sign me up.

  • Reading- Now, I’m not saying stay up all night with the newest book reading until the birds sing in the morning. But, turning off the tv and cracking open a book can help you fall asleep. Check out two of my book lists here and here.
