As each new school year rolls around I give myself a few rules -

  1. Stick to a budget

  2. Buy pieces that I will wear in school and outside of school

  3. Buy pieces that I can wear for seasons to come

  4. Buy pieces on sale only (very rarely do I buy something specific for school that is not on sale, I have to really really love it)

  5. And lastly, for each new item in my closet donate or sale one piece I haven’t worn in a long time (typically a year or longer)

The T-shirt Dress

My T-shirt Dress

T-shirt dresses are my go-to throw on and go in my closet. Perfect for mornings where you are in a rush to get to your morning duty on time or on the days where you just don’t want to wear pants (I can’t be the only one)!

The Cropped Wide Leg Pant

My Pants

I have been on a cropped wide leg kick for about a year now, but haven’t been able to find a pair of pants - just jeans. One day I was browsing online and stumbled across the perfect pair, and they come in regular, petite, and plus! I snagged these quickly and know they will quickly become a favorite this upcoming school year.

The White Top

My Top

I always lean towards neutral colors and comfy fabrics in just about everything I buy. When I saw this top in person I thought it was just another white top, nothing special. Until I touched it and quickly realized I must have it in my closet because it is that kind of comfy cozy. I also like that it is a looser fit, I don’t enjoy being in anything form fitting at work (or really ever).

My Button Down

Love a good button down, especially this one with a relaxed fit. This will be a staple for years to come, inside and outside of the classroom.

The Floral Kimono

My Kimono

I tend to shy away from “trends”or pieces that I know probably won’t stick around for more than a couple seasons. This is also the first time I actually purchased something I saw advertised on Instagram from a boutique I wasn’t familiar with. As soon as I saw the color and the floral pattern I knew it had to be mine. I will admit that I felt guilty purchasing something out of my norm, as mentioned before I really do my best to stick with purchases I know I can get a lot of wear out of and not buy into the fast fashion cycle. I decided that this little kimono piece will make me happy each time I wear it and it was well worth the under $40 price tag because of that! So, if you find a piece that makes you happy like this kimono does for me why not snag it for the new school year?!

The Mid-Rise Cropped Jean

My Jeans

The jeans in the majority of the above pictures!

I tend to splurge on denim, as a pair can last for years if you take care of them. I have been on the hunt for the perfect mid-to-high-rise pair of jeans that have a looser fit compared to my normal skinny jean, and LET ME TELL YOU- these jeans are it! And they won’t cost you an arm and a leg, which is great when you’re wearing them to school and don’t want to ruin your $$$ jeans.
